How long have you been at Verina Daly Care?

I started Verina Daly Care Ltd in 2011 after working for other companies and being disillusioned with the care being provided, I felt I could do things better.

How long have you been working in the care industry?

I started working as an auxiliary nurse in 1989, first working at Milford Hospital and then St Lukes and Royal Surrey. I then worked in the community for social services. Moving on to caring for children with short life expectancy. Eventually moving on to elderly care in the community.

What attracted you to work in care?

Wanting to make a difference to people at a time in their lives that was very difficult and scary. Wanting to help and build up self-confidence.

What is the favourite thing about your job role?

The diversity, people I work with, people we care for, team work and have a particular affinity with clients who are end of life.

What can I say about me?

I am passionate about what we do on a daily basis, the responsibility of every single one of us and the effect we can have if we get it wrong. I love the fast pace and thinking on your feet. I enjoy stressful situations and feel that is when I am at my best. I love people, horses, music of all genres and enjoy riding my motorbike on a sunny day round the lanes of Hampshire.

On and off since 2009 (I think) I have done various roles, from HCSW, to Accounts, to Admin and HR Assistant and now to HR Manager.

How long have you been working in the care industry?

2009, Mostly for VDC, but did work for another company very briefly, as at the time VDC couldn’t offer me the hours I needed.

What attracted you to work in care?

Flexible hours, open industry – Being a carer opens a lot of doors/windows into other aspects of Health Care (especially for VDC as they have such a good reputation with the medical teams) and Security.

What is the favourite thing about your job role?

Love the fast pace of the office, problem solving, recruiting for the perfect additions to our team.

What do you enjoy about working for Verina Daly Care?

My colleagues, no ‘micromanaging’, fair pay, flexible hours, approachable management.

I have 2 young children 1 boy & 1 girl who are full of spirit and energy. We love to go on family walks with our French Bulldog, Louis. I like to read, write (I am currently trying to write my own novel, called Rule of an Hourglass) and pre COVID, spend time with family and friends – More often than not, with a glass of wine!

In my spare time I volunteer at a Youth Theatre (Centrestage Productions Youth Theatre) in Chandlers Ford, where I am part of the Creative & Organising Team that put on 2 shows a year in the local Theatre (The Point, Eastleigh) as their Choreographer such as Annie, The Wizard of OZ, Rock of Ages and Priscilla Queen Of The Desert.

I studied 2 BTEC Diploma’s (First & National) in Performing Arts at Chichester College between 2004-2008 and have had a passion for performing my whole life, another hobby of mine was competitive Cross-Country running but now just enjoy watching that on the TV as most of my time is now taken up elsewhere.
